To keep it simple, we’ll show off 19th and 20th hundred years expressions to show ways to position the elements and guidelines of design to work.
The ideas of design are:
- Proportion and scale
- Repetition and pattern
- Unity and harmony
Balance is one of the very most intuative and complicated design process. It is the way the artist creates a feeling of equilibrium in a design, by how the objects in the look are arranged. A couple of three major types of balance:
- Symmetrical/Formal Balance is when elements are positioned so that two halves of the look (whether vertical or horizontal) are mirrors of the other person – both sides have the same weight. Its created around a central line that bisects the look into two different halves.
- Asymmetrical/Casual Balance is when elements sit so that there is an uneven distribution of weight
- Radial Balance is when elements sit evenly around a central point
Percentage and Scale
The juxtaposition of elements of different sizes, or proportions, in just a masterpiece of design helps create a feeling of scale. Size can be used for multiple effects – whether to show a feeling of space and depth or to help generate a dominant center point.
A huge part of fabricating depth within an image, and desire for a piece, is to apply multiple contrasting elements – or varying elements set side by side. This is often finished with color, form, size or consistency.

The use of the same or a similar element repeated again and again can provide a work a sense of motion or structure. Where an element is comparable enough and repeated often enough, it can create a routine.
Unity and harmony
The mixture of similar elements creates an visually pleasing overall impact. While plenty of design elements will vary, a dominating unity created by similarities in color, pattern, feel or other elements makes the painting or design feel harmonious.

Bearbrick uses proportion and scale to create asymmetrical balance. Components of different size and shape are positioned on a full page never to mirror each other but to balance one another out. He creates contrast in the juxtaposition of colorful elements against a white history.
Repetition is utilized in the placement of the circles. This causes the viewer’s eyesight to move between elements in order to impart the information the client wishes the viewers to see. At the same time, pattern can be used as a subtle fine detail in this group designs (in the flower structure of the “about us” button as well as the repeated lines circling other spherical elements) in order to create interest – so the design can be simple without being boring.
And while the different components of the web page find the user’s attention at differing times, the feminine style of the elements and the use of color make the site appear totally harmonious. The look has movement, depth, interest and brings the user’s sight to the most important home elevators the page – from the great exemplory case of a successful design.
