Children wish to give color, and their work is a reflection of their interior world. Most kids don’t believe about or censor their artwork. For the past 40 years, I’ve used children’s Coloring Webpages as an important part of my pediatric practice. The family color helps me study development at confirmed moment in time, and it could hint me off to potential problems. This first picture is a great example of how artwork can be a springboard for dialogue. It was drawn by a patient of mine when she was 11. She acquired lived by itself with her mom since birth and she’s no siblings. On the surface, her physical health, schoolwork, and public development were just fine. But she made friends slowly and gradually and she was unusually cautious about leaving her mom to go to friends’ houses. She preferred to own friends come to her house and play while her mother was nearby. I was worried that their close connection got in the way of her learning how to split up from her mommy, which is a necessary part of development.
I hadn’t been able to get this point across at prior office sessions. But with this colouring, I had fashioned an opening. Just how they were put so closely along, and the actual fact that a short string connected the mom and child, stood out to me. WHILE I asked Mother, “What do you consider concerning this picture?” she in the beginning talked happily about her daughter’s color skills. But she accepted that she could see what I’d been trying to say about their relationship. We were able to speak about it, and she kept the office motivated to help her girl (and herself ) discover ways to isolate psychologically while maintaining their loving and close relationship.

Coloring skills often get started to tell a story in kindergarten. Although kids at this age have a tendency to use simple stick figures, you will often pick things up from facial expressions, where members of the family are placed, and what they’re doing.
